Why do I need a personal injury lawyer?
Personal injury laws are complex and ever changing. It’s important to work with an experienced lawyer who deals with insurance companies and understands personal injury law. At Curran Law Firm, personal injury law is all we do.
How long will it take to settle my case?
On average, it can take anywhere between 1 to 3 years to achieve a successful settlement. There are a number of factors that affect this time frame, such as your doctor's long term prognosis, how long it takes you to heal, and whether or not to proceed with a trial. Approximately 98% of personal injury cases settle as opposed to going to trial.
How soon do I have to file a claim?
In most cases in Ontario, you have 2 years in which to commence a lawsuit against the person who caused you to become injured. There are also time limitations for giving notice to those you intend to seek compensation from. The time limits can vary depending on the nature and extent of your injury as well as how many parties are involved. When a claim is being brought against a municipality or another public body, the time limit is significantly shorter.
What is the cost to speak with one of your lawyers?
We do not charge for consultations. We work on a contingency fee basis, which means that you do not need to pay us any money, EVER, until we win your case.
Would I receive compensation if I am partly at fault?
Yes, you would as long as the other person or people involved are also at fault. We would need to assess exactly what portion of fault lies with you. If you were responsible for one quarter of the injuries you sustained, than we would seek compensation for the other three quarters of the value associated with your injury.
